Precast/Prestressed Girder Help

Vertical Shear

By default, Precast/Prestressed Girder calculates the vertical shear reinforcement using provisions for prestressed beams specified in LFD Art. 9.20. As required by some states, Precast/Prestressed Girder also provides the option of calculating reinforcement for vertical shear in the end negative moment zones using the AASHTO LFD procedures for reinforced concrete. This option is only available for multi-span files in LFD mode.

To choose this option, go to the Moment and Shear Provisions tab on the Project Parameters screen on the Analysis tab and select this option. With the Design end shear as reinforced beam option selected, Precast/Prestressed Girder will design the end zone as a reinforced concrete beam, and Vc is calculated using the following equation:

Anchorage zone reinforcement is calculated based on the provisions of LFD Art. 9.22.1.
